Collaborations

APHRC has established collaborations with relevant policy agencies in some of its research programs to ensure that policy makers are involved in the projects from the beginning to the end. This has made it much easier for APHRC to inform policy through its direct dialoguing with policy makers.

Collaboration with the City Council of Nairobi - APHRC is currently implementing a research program where it has collaborated with the Nairobi City Council among other partners. The program, the Nairobi Urban Health and Poverty Partnership (NUHPP), seeks to determine cost-effective strategies for addressing the health and livelihood needs of the poor residents of Nairobi City, and export lessons from the Nairobi experience to other sub-Saharan African countries with similar urbanization patterns. APHRC staff thus work closely with the Council’s officers in implementing the Nairobi Urban Health and Poverty Partnership (NUHPP) project and participated in a number of international and local conferences and seminars where they contributed to the discourse on population and health policies on the continent.

Collaboration with the National Coordinating Agency for Population and Development (NCAPD) - APHRC is also implementing a research program where it has collaborated with the NCAPD (Kenyan government agency responsible for the development and implementation of Kenya’s population policy under the Ministry of Planning). The program, the Nairobi Urban Health Equity Gauge (NUHEG), documents and disseminates inequities in health in Nairobi. The program seeks to establish and consolidate linkages with public policy and program development institutions, and to enrich their efforts in improving the health outcomes of the urban poor.
