Steven van de Vijver

Senior Research Officer
Steven under the Health Challenges and Systems research program on the SCALE UP project (Sustainable Model for Cardiovascular health by Adjusting Lifestyle and treatment with Economic perspective in settings of Urban Poverty). In addition, he is the Director of Urban Health, at the Amsterdam Institute of Global Health and Development (AIGHD).
Education: Masters degree in International Health from the Royal Tropical Institute, The Netherlands in 2010, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Groningen, The Netherlands in 2003.
Steven joined APHRC in July 2011 prior to which he worked as a medical doctor for Doctors without Borders (MSF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 2006 to 2007.
Steven is a strong believer in the power of primary health care, and fascinated by the rise of chronic diseases in slum settings: Tropical Medicine 2.0. He's specialzed in Family Medicine to increase his skills on management of chronic diseases.
Besides his medical activities Steven is a writer of several best-selling books that have been translated in various languages.
